I’m thrilled to announce my marriage to 👩‍💻SooYoung Kwak on Saturday, December 21st!

✨ Our Story: It all started when I came across SooYoung’s insightful article on “Clinical Significance vs Statistical Significance” (featuring a heart-framed illustration as the thumbnail). As a junior biostatistician at the time, I reached out for professional guidance. Little did I know that this statistical consultation would lead to a lifelong partnership!

• We now co-operate “Tea Tasting Statisticians,” continuing the theme while sharing our statistical insights
• The blog name pays homage to this classic statistical story while we focus on modern statistical methodologies

🙏 Wedding Highlights: Pastor Joseph Kwon officiated our ceremony, sharing a powerful metaphor about “non-physical transformation” – just as a judge’s verdict transforms one’s legal status, our marriage ceremony transformed us into a united couple.

💫 Our Vision: As people of faith, we aspire to grow in shared virtues like love, joy, goodness, and faithfulness. Marriage, as Pastor Kwon noted, is like taking an “express lane” toward personal growth and spiritual development.

지난 토요일 21일, 👩‍💻SooYoung Kwak 과 결혼하였습니다. 첫번째 사진에 하트그림 액자가 있습니다. 수영씨가 ‘임상적 유의성 vs 통계적 유의성’이라는 글을 쓰시고 해당 그림을 썸네일로 두었습니다. 수영씨는 기존에 tea-tasting lady라는 블로그를 운영하고 있었고 해당 블로그의 글이었습니다. 이 블로그는 통계학자 Fisher의 exact test의 배경으로 나오는 “lady tasting tea” story에 영감을 받아 “tea tasitng lady”라 이름 지었습니다.

저는 처음에 biostat 신입으로서 그 글을 보고 조언을 구하려고 했습니다. 그래서 만남을 요청하였고, 그때의 인연이 줄곧 이어져 부부의 연을 맺게 되었습니다. 또한 현재 같이 tea-tasting statisticians라는 블로그를 운영하고 있습니다.

주례해주신 Joseph Kwon 목사님께서 결혼식을 한 순간 ‘비 물체적 변형’이 일어난다고 하였습니다. 판사가 사람에게 죄와 형을 선고하면 죄인이 되고 신분이 변화되는 것처럼 결혼식을 통해서 우리도 부부가 된 것입니다.

또한, 우리는 하나님을 믿기 때문에 하나님을 닮기를 갈망합니다. 하나님에게는 공유적 속성과 비공유적 속성이 있는데, 이는 사람과 공유하는 / 공유하지 않는 특성을 의미합니다. 사람과 공유하는 특성은 사랑과 희락과 양선과 충성과 … 그러한 것들이고, 비공유적 속성은 전능성, 죽은 자를 살리는 것 등입니다. 우리는 공유적 속성이 더욱 자라나길 바라고 있습니다.

부부의 연을 맺었다는 것은 서로 하나되었다는 의미이고, 결혼하지 않은 사람에 비해 하나님을 닮기가 더 쉽다고 합니다. 일종의 고속도로를 탔다고 하지요.

앞으로 서로 사랑하고, 배려하며 하나님을 닮아가겠습니다. 와서 우리의 결혼의 증인이 되어주시고 축하해주셔서 감사합니다!
